The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America Matt Kracht 9781452174037 Books Reviews

  • I thought, from reading the advert and a few "Look Inside" pages that this would be mildly snarky. It was much more profanity-laced as the book went on. Nothing I could enjoy, but, a couple of my siblings find it delightful... all the more because I am so straight-laced and pure of heart that they'd never have expected me to pick out such a book.
I still like the drawings, but the "F" bombs were too much for my delicate sensibilities.
  • I enjoy a wide variety of humor. The occasional "f-bomb" does not bother me. This book is an example that too many vulgar words are simply NOT funny. Being a birdwatcher, I was looking forward to a great read. I actually purchased this book as a birthday present for my birdwatching spouse. I had to apologize for my selection. I have read this book once, and that was one time too many. This book will end up in the "charity" box. What a disappointment. Don't buy this book. Donate the money you save to a birding organization instead.
  • I have a fascination with birds and comedy. This book suffices BOTH of my desires AND THEN SOME! Beautifully written and factual; while also including details illustrations to accompany the witty writing.

This is my new favorite bathroom read. I learn and laugh. Highly recommended for all bird lovers and even bird haters! All will enjoy reading this book and gain new insight into the squawking and annoying beasts that loom overhead.
  • As an ornithologist with a cheesy sense of humor, this book really appealed to me. I pre-ordered it and once it arrived and I had wiped away the tears of joy after laughing my ass off, I immediately bought two more copies to give to my coworkers.
  • A book about annoying birds written in a way that has you giggling the whole time? This book is hilarious and clever and really quite a little piece of genius. I bought 2 copies for my bird loving friends (heee!) and am ordering more. One I keep for myself for my coffee table stack so I can spread the good snark. I also love that in his own way, Matt Kracht is quite the expert on birds and could only write this book if he truly appreciated their feathered ways. Well done!
  • Really clever, great illustrations and profanely funny. This guide will delight the continuum of thise who actually don’t like the little critters to bird lovers with a sense of humor who don’t take themselves or birds too seriously. Given this, It will make a great gift for a wide range of “just the right people”!
  • This little book is a speedy read and utterly enjoyable. If you love watching birds and don’t take that endeavor too seriously, you will laugh out loud!
  • This book is a hilarious addition to a bird watcher's collection. Factual data is mixed with comical spins for a fun read.
